Arandis to experience water rationing this week

Staff Reporter

THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has advised the Arandis Town Council to implement water rationing measures from Monday, 14 April 2025 to Friday, 18 April 2025.

NamWater explained that this action is necessary due to a reduced water supply from the Orano Desalination Plant, which is affecting the water supply to both Swakopmund and Arandis.

“The reduction in supply is due to sulphur upwelling (breakouts) in the ocean, which began on Tuesday, 08 April 2025. These weather-related disruptions have affected the plant’s operations, resulting in critically low reservoir levels—below 50% for Swakopmund and below 30% for Arandis,” NamWater explained.

A spokesperson added that the interruptions are expected to persist for at least the next five days, and possibly longer. To manage the limited supply and prevent the reservoirs from running dry, NamWater has advised the Arandis Town Council to implement daily water rationing from 22h00 to 04h00 until Friday.

“We understand the inconvenience this may cause and sincerely appreciate your cooperation in using water sparingly during this period. For any critical needs or further inquiries, please contact the Arandis Town Council or NamWater. We will continue to keep you updated on developments as we work to restore normal supply,” NamWater added.
