AFTER 27 years in business, the Agenbag family is forced to rebuild the Henties Bay SPAR supermarket which burned down on Saturday, in the hopes of opening by the end of this year.
While the cause of the fire has not been determined yet, one of the supermarket’s owners, Daleen Agenbag, stated that the Henties Bay SPAR team are working tirelessly to salvage what can be saved, in preparation for the supermarket’s reopening in a few months.
Daleen stated that they intend to have the supermarket operational by November at the same location.
Acknowledging that the effects of this incident go beyond the Agenbag family, Daleen emphasised that the Henties Bay SPAR employees, which are about 65, can be assured of the security of their jobs and their salaries in the meantime.
“We are doing everything in our power to get our staff through this,” Daleen stated. “Even if it is the last thing I do, I will make sure that the staff is okay”.
The tragic incident also shocked the public who shared their support on social media as photos and videos of the fire and aftermath were circulated.
“Our hearts are broken! 27 years of blood and sweat burned down in the blink of an eye! Daleen Agenbag and Johan Agenbag, you are a Mean team! And God will carry us all through this and reach new heights again!” one person shared on Facebook.
Daleen expressed her gratitude for those who supported the Henties Bay SPAR team amidst the tragedy, stating that “the sun will shine again”.
