VILHO Shikeva, a resident of the Ondangwa town, has donated 25 young shade trees to the town council.
Shikeva, who is a teacher at the Olukolo Primary School, said that idea to donate shade trees was born when he attended a youth business expo where participants complained about the lack of shade in the town of Ondangwa, especially at places where important events take place.
He handed the donation to Deputy Mayor Ester Auala during a special event attended by the majority of councilors last week.
Shikeva expressed the hope that the shade trees he donated would go a long way towards the alleviation of the lack of shade trees in town.
Deputy Mayor Auala thanked Shikeva for the donation that came after the town council received another consignment of five trees donated by the Ondangwa Youth Forum.
Shade trees add value to a town by keeping vehicles cool in parking lots and by providing shade to the roadways.
Besides being beautiful to look at, trees also reduce air pollution, reduce soil erosion and add value to people’s property.
