FOUR armed men allegedly stormed a Wanaheda home, holding residents at gunpoint and threatening them with a panga before fleeing with property worth N$99,828, while a 65-year-old woman was allegedly strangled during a separate housebreaking in Katima Mulilo, amid a string of crime incidents reported in several towns.
According to the Namibian Police weekend crime report, in Katima Mulilo, a 25-year-old Namibian man was arrested after allegedly forcing open the door of a house occupied by a 65-year-old woman on Friday. The suspect allegedly entered the house and strangled the woman, causing her to sustain injuries.
Police investigations are continuing.
In Wanaheda, four unknown men allegedly robbed residents at gunpoint and with a panga at a house.
One of the victims opened the door to go outside to pour water when he encountered the suspects. One of the men allegedly pointed a pistol at him before the suspects dragged him into the sitting room, where other housemates were present.
The victims were allegedly held at gunpoint and threatened with a panga while the suspects took property valued at N$99,828.
The suspects remain unknown, and police investigations are continuing.
In Otjomuise, a housebreaking and theft incident was reported. The suspect allegedly used an unknown object to break into a house and stole items valued at N$70,000.
No arrest has been reported.
In Karasburg, police arrested a 31-year-old Namibian man following an alleged attempted break-in at a betting shop in the town’s business area on Saturday.
The suspects allegedly broke the shop’s door with an iron bar to gain entry. Security officers at a neighbouring premises reportedly heard suspicious noises and went to investigate, where they allegedly found the suspects inside the shop.
One of the suspects allegedly produced a knife and an iron bar and struck a security officer on the head with the iron bar, causing him to sustain injuries and lose consciousness. The suspects then fled without taking anything.
The arrested suspect is expected to make his first court appearance before the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court. One other suspect, who is known to police, remains at large.
In Aranos, two men aged 23 and 33 were arrested following an alleged housebreaking on Friday.
The suspects allegedly entered the house and stole groceries valued at N$2,400. No recovery has been made. The two suspects are expected to appear before the Aranos Magistrate’s Court.
In Katima Mulilo, a suspect allegedly broke a house padlock using an unknown object on Friday in the Liselo area, gained entry and stole property valued at N$16,850. No recovery or arrest has been made.
At a bar in the Lyambai location, another housebreaking was reported. The suspect allegedly broke the padlock on the main door using an unknown object, entered the bar and stole property valued at N$18,300.
No stolen property has been recovered and no arrest has been made in that case.
