THE month-long Huila Expo is in full swing in Lubango, with a strong Namibian presence at Angola’s oldest multi-sector trade fair in the south.

Namibian Ambassador to Angola, Leonard Iipumbu, led the delegation. He was joined by regional governors Sackey Kathindi of Oshikoto, Vipuakuje Muharukua of Kunene, Immanuel Shikongo of Omusati, Hophni Iipinge of Oshana and Kadiva Hamutumwa of Ohangwena, along with representatives of local authorities and other stakeholders.

Organised by the Associação Agro Pecuária Comercial e Industrial do Lubango (AAPCIL), with support from the Provincial Government, the expo brings together exhibitors from various provinces in Angola and beyond.

The fair coincides with the Festivities of “Our Lady of the Mountain”, a series of events held annually in Lubango during August. The tradition dates back more than a century, to when the image of “Our Lady” was brought from Portugal to a chapel constructed on the mountain in Lubango, which was consecrated on 15 August 1903.
