THE Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform has started servicing and repairing agricultural machinery in the Omusati Region to ensure tractors are ready for deployment ahead of the 2026/27 dryland crop production season.
The tractor servicing and readiness programme began in the region as part of preparations for the upcoming ploughing season, with the ministry focusing on servicing, inspecting and carrying out minor repairs on its agricultural machinery.
Chief Agricultural Scientific Officer for Outapi, Omusati Region, Anatolia Shaanika, said the work was being carried out using the ministry’s own capacity through its Agricultural Technology Centres.

“We are currently busy with the exercise of servicing and repairing tractors in the region using our own capacity in the Ministry of Agriculture Technology Centres, and we are glad that this exercise has started in our region,” she said.
Shaanika said 59 tractors required servicing or minor repairs, of which 26 had already been serviced.
“We are going to service 33 more, and we are expecting this exercise to be completed before the end of the week,” she said.
She said the ministry was confident that having all tractors ready would enable more farmers to access mechanised support during the approaching dryland crop production season.
“As the dryland crop production season is fast approaching, we are confident that this year we are going to support more farmers, as all the tractors will be ready to be utilised,” Shaanika said.
The ministry said the programme forms part of its preparations to ensure that the necessary machinery and logistical arrangements are in place to support farmers and facilitate timely preparation for the cropping season.
