THE National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) represented Namibia at the 2025 KISTEP–ISTIC Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Training Programme for High-Level Policy Makers held in Seoul, South Korea.
The programme, hosted by the Korea Institute of S&T Evaluation and Planning (KISTEP) in collaboration with the International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre (ISTIC), brought together senior policymakers, researchers and innovation leaders to exchange knowledge and best practices in advancing national research and innovation systems.

Grant Balie, Manager for Innovation and Industrial Research at the NCRST, represented Namibia during the four-day event. He delivered Namibia’s country report, highlighting the nation’s progress and opportunities in research, science, technology and innovation (RSTI) policy development, while outlining the NCRST’s role in fostering partnerships that drive inclusive and sustainable innovation.
The programme included plenary sessions, country presentations and panel discussions on science and technology policy, R&D evaluation, budget allocation and science diplomacy. Participants also visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) to gain first-hand insights into Korea’s strategic approach to innovation and industrial research.
Through its participation, the NCRST reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in science, technology and innovation, and to adopting global best practices to enhance the country’s RSTI landscape.
