Water supply rationing announced for northern regions amid pump failure

Staff Reporter

THE Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) has announced scheduled water rationing and interruptions across parts of the north following a technical failure at one of its pumps at Calueque.

According to NamWater, the malfunction disrupted water flow to the Ogongo and Oshakati Water Treatment Plants. Although the technical team managed to restore pump functionality late on Sunday, 27 July 2025, full water supply is only expected to normalise by late Thursday, 31 July 2025.

To mitigate a potential water crisis, NamWater will implement nightly water supply rationing from 28 July to 16 August 2025, between 22:00 and 04:00.

The affected regions include Oshana, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena.

NamWater urged essential service institutions such as hospitals, clinics, schools, and police stations experiencing urgent supply issues to contact the following representatives for assistance: Mr. Tommy Sheelongo, Operations Manager (Oshana, Ohangwena, Oshikoto) – 081 272 7945, Mr. Raphaei Endjala, Superintendent (Oshana & Ohangwena) – 081 124 5597 and Mr. Nico Ndemwiimba, Superintendent (Oshana & Oshikoto) – 081 145 5267.

NamWater apologised for the inconvenience and thanked residents and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation as efforts continue to fully restore the water supply service.
