DAVID Akuunda of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) was sworn in as the newest councillor of the Ongwediva Town Council on Monday.
He assumes the position previously held by fellow IPC member Ottilie Haitota.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Local Authorities Act, 1992 (Act No. 23 of 1992), as amended.
This development was necessitated by Councillor Haitota’s move to the National Assembly earlier this year, which created a vacancy on the council.
The formal occasion was presided over by the Chairperson of the Council, Councillor Taarah Shalyefu, who also serves as the current mayor of Ongwediva.
