NAMIBIANS did not make a mistake during the November 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections when they renewed the SWAPO Party’s mandate to continue governing the country, said the newly elected SWAPO Party president and Namibia’s President-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Speaking in Windhoek shortly after being elected by acclamation at the party’s 6th Extra-Ordinary Congress, Nandi-Ndaitwah said that SWAPO is committed to delivering on the promises made to the nation through the 2024 Election Manifesto.
She pointed out that the Extra-Ordinary Congress could have taken place at any other time and in any other place following the death of President Hage Geingob.
However, she said, events unfolded in such a way that the Extra-Ordinary Congress was ultimately scheduled for March 8—International Women’s Day, a day that commemorates women’s fight for equality and liberation.
Said Nandi-Ndaitwah: “Namibia will go down in history, particularly the SWAPO Party, for having celebrated the 8th of March 2025 in a special style. You have delivered on this day the first female President of the SWAPO Party. Congratulations!”
Nandi-Ndaitwah’s election on Saturday took place in the presence of the President of the Pan-African Women’s Organization, Eunice Iipinge.
“This is going to strengthen Namibia in our strive to ensure that gender equality becomes a reality—not just for the sake of gender equality, but for the prosperity of our people. Ours is not just about balancing. Ours is about the quality that we are bringing to the table,” she said, adding that her election was a joyous moment.
