PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba praised the late President Hage Geingob’s leadership, highlighting his pivotal role in championing the diversification of Namibia’s economy and fostering networks that positioned the country as a frontier for new economic initiatives.

He made these remarks at the launch of the Hage G. Geingob N$60 Commemorative Banknote, which the president said symbolises the late president’s vision for the country’s economic recovery.

“This commemorative banknote cements Dr Geingob’s vision, which was not only for economic recovery and growth but also for shared economic prosperity for all Namibian citizens, in the spirit of his famous motto that ‘No One should feel left out from the Namibian House.’ His leadership prioritised championing the diversification of our economy through groundbreaking initiatives in renewable energy, trade, and industrialisation, among others. Dr Geingob, through visionary leadership, built bridges and developed networks to establish Namibia as a frontier for new economic initiatives and opportunities across our region, the continent, and beyond, for the welfare of all our citizens,” President Mbumba said.

He further revealed that the launch of the commemorative banknote was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Parliament and the Bank of Namibia. He added that the launch was originally scheduled for 10 February 2025, in commemoration of Namibia’s Constitution Day, but had to be postponed due to the recent passing of the late founding president, Dr Sam Nujoma.

“This memorable occasion is made possible through the collaborative efforts of Parliament and Namibia’s Central Bank, in commemoration of Namibia’s Constitution Day and recognition of 35 years of constitutional democracy by honouring Dr Geingob as one of the principal architects of our supreme law – the Constitution. In this vein, we pay tribute to the Members of the Constituent Assembly, both those who have gone before us as well as those still among us. These are the pioneers who worked tirelessly with Dr Geingob to craft the very foundation of our democracy,” the president added.
