A SUSPECTED female trader of illegally imported goods from Angola is on the run after learning that a man sent to deliver a fresh consignment to Tsumeb has been arrested.
The police are investigating a case of dealing in/possession of illicit goods and conspiracy to commit a crime after intercepting a Toyota pickup and arresting its 26-year-old driver at the Bravo police checkpoint in the Oshikoto Region early Friday morning.
The illicit goods discovered during the vehicle search included ten boxes of Yes cigarettes, 15 boxes of Rumba whiskey, 70 boxes of Impuiso Café rum, 18 sachets of whiskey (50ml each), and two crates of Cuca beer, with a combined value of N$135,570.
According to the police, the owner of the vehicle, a resident of Ongha settlement in the Ohangwena Region, had tasked his nephew (now the suspect) with delivering the goods to Tsumeb.
The female resident of Tsumeb who was supposed to receive the illicit goods is known to the police but has not yet been arrested, as her current whereabouts are unknown. “She is on the run,” said the police.
