THE police in the Oshikoto Region have arrested a 34-year-old man at the Oshivelo checkpoint after he was found in possession of illicit goods worth N$74,400.
Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said the suspect was arrested on Sunday for contravening the Customs and Excise Act 20 of 1998—dealing in/possession of illicit goods—alternatively, contravening the Tobacco Products Control Act 1 of 2010 by being found in possession of Yes cigarettes.
“The suspect unlawfully and intentionally tried to smuggle Yes cigarettes through the Oshivelo checkpoint,” she said.
She added that they confiscated plastic packs of cigarettes, each containing 10 boxes.
