Onayena community remembers Nujoma

THE community of Onayena joined the entire nation in mourning the passing of the Founding Father, Sam Nujoma, the first democratically elected president of independent Namibia.

Nujoma died at the age of 95.

He led the long fight for independence from South Africa in 1990 after helping found Namibia’s liberation movement, the South West Africa People’s Organisation (Swapo), in the 1960s.

After independence, Nujoma became president and led the country until 2005.

Chairperson of ODE, Martin-Olembe Antindi, said the late president was a beacon of hope to the Namibian people, a statesman, and a selfless leader.

“We, as the community of Onayena, take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt condolences to the Nujoma family and to the entire Namibian nation for the loss of a great leader,” he concluded.
