THE Namibia Livestock Identification and Traceability System under the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform has informed the public that all unused stock brands are scheduled to be cancelled by the end of April.
In a veterinary public notification issued on Thursday, Acting Registrar of Stock Brands Johannes Shoopala indicated that this is being done in line with the Stock Brands Act (Act 24 of 1995), Section 10(2).
He explained that the Act states that if, for a period of two years, a person has not used a registered brand, they will be given a 30-day notice after the expiry of that period. Upon receipt of such notice, the Registrar will proceed with the cancellation.
Shoopala said livestock owners who want to keep their brands active are advised to visit the nearest veterinary office or the Livestock Products Board of Namibia.
