PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba said that February 4th will forever be etched in the hearts of Namibians as a day of profound sorrow.
On this day, the nation unexpectedly lost its sitting Head of State, Dr. Hage Gottfried Geingob.
Mbumba made these remarks during the first anniversary of the late President Geingob, held in the capital on Tuesday.
According to Mbumba, nothing could have prepared the people of the Land of the Brave for this devastating loss, which robbed Namibia of a dedicated leader whose passion and love for his people were immeasurable.
“President Geingob’s impact on Namibia was profound. He touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity, leaving a legacy of compassion and service,” he said.
He added that the late President’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity fostered a sense of unity, while his tireless efforts to build a prosperous Namibian House inspired hope and progress.
Thus, Mbumba said the late Geingob’s dedication to the well-being of all Namibians will be deeply missed.
He stressed that they shall never forget the many things President Geingob did toward creating a better Namibian House, in which no one should feel left out, as he used to say.
“On this day of remembrance, we are summoned to reflect on the journey we have traveled together as Namibians since that fateful day when death created the sudden absence of a leader who was present in every aspect of Namibian life,” he added.
The President said that the late Geingob was present at a sports field, watching soccer or rugby; at a music show, celebrating the arts; at a beauty pageant; and at every other event that sought to advance the beauty, welfare, and unity of the Namibian people.
Therefore, he indicated that as they evoke both the sad and happy memories of their interactions with President Geingob on the first anniversary, together with his dear wife, Madame Geingos, the children, and the entire Geingob family, they are also reminded of his noble legacy.
Moreover, Mbumba said that they see the legacy of President Geingob through the pivotal role he played in building a public service that is inclusive and geared toward serving the interests of all Namibians.
He added that they also recall his commitment to strengthening a governance architecture that will withstand the test of time and provide public goods to all, specifically to the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
