A CASE of rape is being investigated by police in Ohangwena Region after an eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped at Oshikuni village in the Okongo Constituency.
The incident which occurred last Thursday was only reported on Tuesday.
Ohangwena Crime Investigation Coordinator Deputy Commissioner Melanie Mbuuru, indicated that the suspect allegedly found the victim eating berries while she was herding goats at the time.
“The suspect then started pulling her into the bush, undressed her, and raped her,” she said.
She added that the suspect further allegedly threatened to beat the victim if she told anyone about the incident.
Mbuuru added that the incident was discovered when the victim’s guardian noticed that she took too long to take the goats back home after sunset.
“She then asked the victim why she took so long to bring the goats home, and the victim then told her about the incident,” she added.
Mbuuru indicated that all efforts are being made to arrest the suspect.
