On the sidelines of the inauguration, President Mbumba and his Ghanaian counterpart held talks focusing on matters of mutual interest to Namibia and Ghana.

President Mbumba expressed satisfaction with the increasing bilateral trade between Namibia and Ghana, particularly progress in commercial agriculture and the beef sector. However, he added that more needs to be done to advance commercial relations between the two countries.

He highlighted the special relationship between Namibia and Ghana, including Ghana’s pivotal role in advancing the cause of independence in Africa and Namibia.

The President also commended Ghanaians for electing their first female Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.

Furthermore, President Mbumba thanked President Mahama for Ghana’s continued role in strengthening Namibia’s diplomatic service. Following the discovery of oil and gas resources in Namibia, President Mbumba informed President Mahama that Namibia would count on Ghana’s expertise and greatly benefit from its experiences in the oil, gas, and mining sectors.

Beyond bilateral cooperation, President Mbumba emphasized the need for greater solidarity with the people of Cuba and Gaza.

President Mahama thanked President Mbumba for attending his inauguration and celebrating the occasion with the people of Ghana. He underscored the importance of closer cooperation in the agricultural sector and emphasized the need for Africa to assert ownership and control over its natural resources.

On regional and international matters, President Mahama shared similar views with President Mbumba, advocating for Africa to speak with one voice in international relations.

President Mbumba extended an invitation to President Mahama to attend the inauguration of Namibia’s first female Head of State, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, on March 21, 2025.
