THE Ongwediva Town Council is struggling with the ongoing issue of illegal waste dumping throughout the town.
Despite their efforts to maintain cleanliness, Town spokesperson Ottilie Shingenge said residents and businesses continue to discard rubbish in undesignated areas, posing a significant challenge to the town’s environmental health and image.
Shingenge has urged residents to refrain from illegally dumping waste in undesignated areas and instead make use of the skip bins provided.
She indicated that the council has observed with concern that certain residents are dumping both domestic and garden waste in undesignated areas.
“This includes areas of concern, mostly Ongwe, Buffalo, Lion, Kudu, Elikam Namundjebo, and Kaxumba Kandola streets, as well as the western side and extension 4,” she said.
“As a resident, you are charged for domestic and gardening waste. Therefore, the current practice is not only illegal but also tarnishes the good image of the town,” Shingenge added.
She emphasized that it is high time people say no to illegal dumping of waste in the town.
Shingenge also said that residents can purchase their own bin at the Council office for N$295 per bin or from any shop of their choice.
