PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba has commended Namibians for their patience and calm during the electoral period, which was extended at selected polling stations on the recommendation of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
“President Nangolo Mbumba has extended the voting period under the powers vested in the President by section 64(1)(b) of the Electoral Act, 2014 (Act No.5of2014). The President has therefore amended Proclamation No. 28 of 26 September 2024 by extending the period for the election of the President and for the election of members of the National Assembly referred to in that Proclamation from 21h00 on Wednesday, the 27th of November 2024 until Saturday, the 30th of November 2024 at 21h00 subject to section 93(3) of that Act,” the Namibian Presidency highlighted.
The Presidency emphasised that this extension reflects the President’s commitment to upholding the Namibian Constitution, including the right of every citizen aged 18 and above to vote.
“The extension referred to is applicable to the polling stations set out in the Schedule to the Proclamation, published in terms of Government Notice No. 305 of 23 October 2024. The fixed polling stations will open from 07h00 to 21h00. The mobile polling stations will open on the indicated times as communicated by the ECN. The extended voting days have not been declared public holidays,” the presidency added.
