NamWater signs contract for Monitoring Consultant under Water Sector Support Programme 1 (WSSP 1)

NAMIBIA Water Corporation Ltd (NamWater) has signed a contract for a Monitoring Consultant under the Water Sector Support Programme 1 (WSSP 1).

The contract has been awarded to a Joint Venture (JV) between GKW Consult GmbH and Burmeister & Partners (Pty) Ltd Consulting Engineers. The project spans 72 months (six years), involving periodic missions and full-time representation during its initial stages.

The contract is valued at €2,252,000 for primary services, with an additional €103,000 allocated for optional services.


NamWater’s Chief Executive Officer, Abraham Nehemia, officiated the signing ceremony alongside representatives from the JV partners, NamWater personnel, and other key stakeholders.

According to Nehemia, the Water Sector Support Programme 1 is a critical initiative to address Namibia’s water supply and sanitation challenges.

“In collaboration with KfW Development Bank, this programme aims to improve access, quality, security, and sustainability of water services across the country,” he said.

He added that, after a rigorous procurement process, NamWater is pleased to appoint GKW Consult GmbH in Joint Venture with Burmeister & Partners as the Monitoring Consultant for this important initiative. Nehemia urged the consultants to approach the project with the highest level of diligence and commitment.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Thomas Feidieker, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Windhoek, emphasized the German Government’s continued commitment to supporting Namibia’s Water Sector Support Programme, ensuring adequate and sustainable water supply for the country’s development.

Christian Klein, representing GKW Consult GmbH as the lead consultant, assured attendees of their readiness and understanding of the project’s magnitude and urgency.

“Together with our local partner, we will ensure compliance with the Namibia Public Procurement Act, KfW Development Bank, and World Bank guidelines,” he said. Klein expressed excitement about contributing to Namibia’s Water Sector Support Programme.

Additionally, Ronald Kubos, Managing Director of Burmeister & Partners (Pty) Ltd, shared his satisfaction and commitment to the project.

“We are delighted to collaborate with NamWater once again, having previously worked together on enhancing existing infrastructure. We are committed to delivering quality work that complies with all project guidelines and specifications, ensuring that the people of Namibia have access to reliable and sustainable water supply and sanitation infrastructure,” Kubos said.

He concluded by affirming the team’s goal of effectively addressing Namibia’s most pressing water challenges.
