SWAPO Party presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Saturday launched a tirade against dishonest government officials whose underhanded actions deprive citizens of deserved benefits.
Addressing a crowd of party members and supporters at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region, Nandi-Ndaitwah discussed the implementation of the Basic Income Grant for deserving Namibians and warned against irregularities in the registration of beneficiaries.
She used the registration of veterans of the liberation struggle as a practical example of dishonesty.
She pointed out that some people who were supposed to receive war veteran benefits were excluded, while individuals who did not qualify were included. There were also cases of money being paid to people who had long been dead.
In 2021, it was reported that a hefty sum of close to N$9 million was paid to “ghost” war veterans.
“Dishonesty costs money,” said Nandi-Ndaitwah, urging Namibians to be honest, as progress cannot be achieved without truthfulness. “Dishonesty will push us all into poverty. I don’t want to lead dishonest people,” she said.
