The Inspector-General of the Namibian Police, Lt. Gen. Joseph Shikongo, has silenced self-appointed “People’s General” and social media political activist Michael Amushelelo.
In what can be described as a historic surrender, Amushelelo was forced to tender a formal and binding undertaking that he will refrain from making, publishing, or communicating, whether DIRECTLY or INDIRECTLY, any further statements as outlined in the settlement agreement, which is now an order of Judge Collins Parker.
This followed sustained threats and demands by Amushelelo that Inspector General Shikongo, whose term as Commander of the Namibian Police was recently extended by President Nangolo Mbumba, should be arrested in connection with an accident that occurred at Iindangungu village on the Oshakati-Oshikango main road.
After agreeing to the strict conditions that effectively silenced him, the self-appointed social media activist and LPM strategist, Amushelelo, also offered an apology. In response, Lt. Gen. Shikongo withdrew his defamation lawsuit against Michael Ndali Saddam Amushelelo and accepted the apology.
Judge Collins Parker presided over the case this week, where Shikongo had initially sued Amushelelo for N$1 million for defamation.
Lt. Gen. Shikongo clarified that he is not against being criticized, whether in his capacity as a public servant or as an individual, but stressed that criticism should always be truthful and based on facts.
“We had mediation on Monday, and Amushelelo revealed that he did not have a personal problem with me. Hence, when he apologized, I accepted and saw no need to pursue the matter further,” Shikongo said.
