THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism will be translocating five giraffes to the Okongo Conservancy and Community Forest to diversify the species there.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda said that this is part of the Ministry’s resolve to reintroduce wildlife species to their former habitats.

He indicated that giraffes formerly used to occur in Okongo.

“This translocation will also enhance social and economic factors for the inhabitants of the region through income generation, meat, and leisure through game viewing,” he said.

Muyunda said that the five giraffes will be released at Okongo Conservancy on Thursday.

The Executive Director, Teofilus Nghitila, will officially release the giraffes.
