ESTABLISHED in February this year, Lions Football Club is now home to 30 soccer players and six management members, and competes in the Oshana Village-Based Football League (OVBFL) 3rd division at Omaalala.
As part of their corporate social responsibility, ALV Consulting Engineers handed over a sponsorship of N$50,000 to the Ongwediva-based Lions Football Club on Wednesday.
While officially presenting the donation, Civil Engineer Reginald Sheehama said they were pleased to give back to the community through their CSR, as it helps uplift non-profit organizations.
Sheehama stressed that they want to empower the youth and will continue to do so in order to improve the country’s economy through youth investment.
Lions FC representative Heicky Iiyambo expressed gratitude for the donation, stating that it will make a difference in the lives of the youth involved with the club.
“Lions Football Club adds value to sports development in the northern part of Namibia and is progressing well in molding star-quality footballers,” he said.
He added that the team provides a conducive environment for young footballers to thrive and realize their dreams.
Moreover, he said that the team is open to amateur and professional footballers, as well as to the general public who seek fitness opportunities.
Iiyambo emphasized that, for many, soccer is a hobby, but for some, it is an employment opportunity that puts food on the table for themselves and their families.
He concluded by saying that they will continue to do their best to empower the youth and create platforms for them to shine.
