THE Combating of Domestic Violence Act was allegedly contravened when Onesmus Hailonga, a 43-year-old resident of Oshakati’s Onawa location, returned home late and highly intoxicated.
The first thing he “discovered” was that someone was stealing his “Dawn” lotion, and he wanted to know who that person was.
His girlfriend, who had been sleeping but woke up when Hailonga arrived, identified herself as the “culprit.” The confession infuriated Hailonga so much that he allegedly hit her with a half-pint (200 ml) bottle of traditional liqueur that he was drinking, inflicting a cut above her left eye.
He then took a belt and assaulted her until she fled the house to seek refuge in a neighbouring home, where she stayed until a Good Samaritan took her to the hospital.
The 34-year-old victim, Anna Samuel, who is a member of the San community and originally from Ekonghola village, informed the police that it was not the first time her boyfriend had physically abused her.
Hailonga, who is employed as a cleaner at the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, was arrested and has already made his first court appearance.
