THE Namibian Police (NamPol) is seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the suspects involved in the murders of Maleggie Clay (65) and Shikalepo Adelina Tefelinu (30), who were stabbed to death on Friday, 30 August 2024, and Saturday, 31 August 2024, respectively.
NamPol’s Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, revealed that Clay was stabbed with an unknown object around 23:20 on Friday in Okahandja Park, Windhoek. The suspect allegedly fled after the attack, and the motive behind the killing remains unknown. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed.
Shikwambi further revealed that Tefelinu was stabbed between 00:00 and 01:00 on Saturday in Mondesa, Swakopmund. Tefelinu was allegedly walking home with two friends when they were attacked by five suspects. One of the suspects allegedly drew a knife and began chasing them, prompting the victim and his friends to flee in different directions. Tefelinu, however, was unable to escape and was stabbed in the left side of his chest, resulting in his death. His body was discovered the next morning, and his next of kin have been informed.
These are two of the four murder cases reported to the police over the weekend. While suspects have been arrested in the other cases, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Tefelinu and Clay. Shikwambi confirmed that police efforts to locate the suspects are ongoing but have not yet yielded results.
“The Namibian Police Force is concerned about the high number of murder cases. Although the police succeed in arresting most of the suspects during investigations, and equally through information received from the public, some of the murder suspects remain at large. Hence, this appeal for public assistance. Over the past weekend, four murder cases were reported, with arrests made in only two cases,” Shikwambi said.
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station. Those with relevant information on these cases can also contact the Erongo Regional Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu, at 081 246 4757, or the Khomas Regional Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Mubebo, at 081 268 8888.
“The public is assured of their protection; therefore, they should not fear any reprisal,” Shikwambi added.
