THE 3rd edition of the Mix Annual Soccer Tournament has been scheduled for October this year.
The tournament will take place on 26-27 October 2024, with N$19,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The Windhoek settlement, located 20 km north of Windhoek, has nearly 5,000 residents, with only about 30% employed or semi-employed in the informal sector.
According to coordinator Petrus Hamukwaya, the tournament aims to develop football among the youth at the grassroots level.
Hamukwaya indicated that they expect over 30 teams to participate.
“The tournament aims to create opportunities for the youth, focusing on talent development and preparing players for regional and national competitions,” he said.
He added that the event also provides a platform for the youth to showcase their goods and products, inspires the community, and fosters social belonging.
The tournament winner will walk away with N$10,000, gold medals, and a floating trophy.
The runner-up will receive N$5,000 and silver medals, while the semi-final losers will win N$3,000.
Additional awards include top goalscorer, best goalkeeper, and best coach of the tournament.
Hamukwaya urged all sports lovers to attend in large numbers and support the youth through the tournament.
Cuban Boys are the defending champions.
