PROJECT OF THE YEAR

PROJECT OF THE YEAR: The HyIron Project, which aims to use Namibian-produced green hydrogen for the first industrial production of iron with zero emissions, has won the His Excellency Dr Hage Geingob Award for the Namibian Hydrogen Project of the Year. HyIron’s Managing Director, Johannes Michels, accepted the award at the ongoing Global African Hydrogen Summit in Windhoek. HyIron is set to produce 15,000 tonnes of direct reduced iron (DRI) annually, with its first green iron kiln expected this month. Before his passing, the late President Hage Geingob also expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to offset 27,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year—equivalent to half of Namibia’s total power industry emissions.
