IN an effort to fast-track the construction of the state-of-the-art sports stadium in Ondangwa, the Namibia Fish Consumption Promotion Trust (NFCPT) handed over a donation of N$300,000 towards the construction on Wednesday.
This follows NFCPT’s pledge during the Gala Dinner held on 6 June 2024, during the annual State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) CEO’s Forum.
Officially handing over the donation, NFCPT Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Victor Pea said that this fulfills their commitment to support the Ondangwa Sports Stadium project.
According to Pea, the CEO’s Forum Executive Committee identified worthy causes for support by SOEs in the host region, and the sports complex was recognized as a project worthy of support.
“I believe that this project, which the Ondangwa Town Council has embarked upon, is of national importance and is poised to benefit not only Ondangwa and the surrounding localities, but the entire northern regions and the country at large,” he said.
He added that their commitment to worthy causes of national importance, such as this project, is crucial. It is no secret that Namibia is lagging behind in terms of sports infrastructure, and this initiative by the Council is worth supporting to help make the dream a reality.
Pea expressed hope that this donation from NFCPT would help attract significant investment not only to Ondangwa but to the entire northern region. Such investments bring economic benefits to host towns by creating employment opportunities through the development of facilities like these.
Meanwhile, Ondangwa Town Council Chairperson of the Management Committee, Julia Kapia, said that the stadium transcends mere construction; it represents a collective vision: a venue where athletes of all ages can refine their talents, where families can gather to support their teams, and where the spirit of the community can flourish.
She said that the facility will serve as a center of activity, a source of pride, and a testament to their commitment to promoting excellence and friendship through sports.
“The realization of this project would not be feasible without the remarkable generosity of our donors. Your contributions are the very foundation upon which this stadium will be built,” she said.
Kapia emphasized that each brick, beam, and seat will symbolize one’s faith in this initiative and dedication to the future of the community.
