A TOTAL of 67 road crashes, resulting in six fatalities, were recorded between 19 and 26 August 2024.

This was revealed by Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, Head of the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police (NamPol). She also disclosed that 118 people sustained injuries as a result of these road accidents.

“It must be noted that road safety is a shared responsibility and should not be left to law enforcement alone. Everyone is expected to play their part, even if traffic officers are not visible on the road,” Shikwambi said.

She added that, in an effort to curb road accidents, NamPol and other stakeholders will continue to collaborate on public awareness campaigns, with a particular focus on changing driver behaviour. Shikwambi also revealed that officers will be deployed at accident-prone areas on all roads.

“It is important to acknowledge the cooperation displayed by members of the public, particularly motorists. Everyone is urged to continue practising the right attitude towards driving and to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations at all times,” Shikwambi added.
