A GROUP of 26 men and women from Andjambambali village took an oath recently to join the Women and Men Network in Oshikoto Region.
The Men and Women Network is a community policing volunteer organization that works in collaboration with local police to fight crimes.
Oshikoto Regional Commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said the men and women form part of the network of elyenge tali kondjitha iimbuluma, in the Andjambambali police jurisdiction of Onembenge Police Station, Omuthiya Constituency.
According to Kalompo-Nashikaku, the 26 individuals who joined the Men and Women Network against crime are part of a platform aimed at Crime Prevention initiatives.
“We are committed in our effort to enhance stakeholder engagement as directed by Pillar No.2 of the Namibian Police Force Strategic Plan,” she said.
During the same occasion, the police also took their services to the community.
She indicated that the services included feedback or progress reports on the cases reported by community members living in the surrounding area, and relevant information aimed at detecting and preventing gender-based violence, rape, stock theft, and motor accidents.
Kalompo-Nashikaku said that the community members also had the opportunity to open their cases, certify their documents, and make police declarations.
Kalompo-Nashikaku indicated that every second weekend, they have a program of campaigns where they take policing services to remote communities and areas far from their existing police stations.
The last campaign was carried out in Ohaiyanda village.
