FARMERS in all regions can now submit claims for drought relief interventions at their nearest Ministry of Agriculture Extension Office.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform’s Executive Director, Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, stated that these interventions include livestock marketing incentives, subsidies for the transportation of livestock to and from grazing areas, subsidies for leasing grazing land, as well as lick and fodder subsidies. Nghituwamata added that these interventions are effective from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.
She explained that farmers will need to provide mandatory documents such as herd statements, certified copies of identity documents, stock brand cards, the latest bank confirmation letters, and original proof of transactions (within the applicant’s name) or a confirmation letter from the Traditional Authority where necessary, along with a commission of oath stating that they are drought-stricken.
“However, provision of the subsidies will continue until grazing conditions improve or until the budget is depleted, whichever comes first,” she added.
For more information, farmers are advised to contact the Ministerial Drought Relief Intervention Office at 061 2087 529.
