THE Mayor of Karasburg, Maria Veldskoen, and other members of the Karasburg Town Council have been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for alleged illegal appointments and changes to bank signatories.

This information was disclosed by the National Spokesperson of the Landless People’s Movement (LPM), Lifalaza Simataa, who dismissed the charges as a “witch hunt” and revealed that the LPM has a legal team addressing this matter and will contest the charges.
This development follows concerns expressed by the Minister of Urban and Rural Affairs, Erastus Uutoni, regarding the legality of the appointment of the Karasburg Mayor’s personal assistant, Kalli Goliath, and the town council’s acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Hansina Christian. Uutoni alleged that these appointments did not adhere to the correct procedures. However, the parties involved have denied these allegations.
“The charges which are illegal appointments and changing of the bank signatories are attempts to create a witch hunt and scare tactics as this was and is not the case. At best case (this) is an administrative issue that has been massively blown out of proportion as this is in regard to when the council suspended a portfolio and the acting needed to have access. This is an administrative issue that doesn’t call for the ACC,” Simataa said.
