A CASE of culpable homicide is being investigated by police in Otjozondjupa after a 45-year-old woman died in a road crash on Monday evening.

The deceased was identified as Hautoni Ndilimele.

Otjozondjupa police spokesperson, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, said that the incident occurred around 20h00 on the road outside Okahandja, towards Cross Barmen.

According to Mbeha, it is alleged that the driver of a beige Land Cruiser bakkie with the registration number of Okahandja was travelling from the northern to southern direction on the Okahandja-Cross Barmen road.

“It is further alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve, resulting in it leaving the road and overturning on the western side of the road,” she said.

She added that the vehicle rolled and ended up in a camp where it landed on its roof.

Mbeha noted that one passenger was allegedly thrown out of the vehicle and succumbed to the injuries sustained at the scene, while the driver and the other two passengers were stuck in the vehicle but were later removed.

The driver, a 44-year-old man, and two other adults of unknown ages sustained serious injuries and were transferred to Windhoek.

The deceased’s remains were transported to Okahandja State Mortuary pending an autopsy.
