NamRA to Release Menzies Aviation Cargo

Staff Reporter

THE Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) has announced that it has assumed responsibility for the handling and clearance of consignments stored in the warehouse previously managed by Menzies Aviation at Hosea Kutako International Airport. This will result in the release of cargo that has been locked up due to protracted court battles dating back to 2022 between Menzies Aviation and Paragon, determining which company should handle cargo handling services.

Steven Ndorokaze, NamRA spokesperson, explained that since the commencement of this process on Wednesday, 16 shipments and consignments for Coastal Couriers, and three boxes belonging to the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia, have already been cleared and released.

“This action is in accordance with Section 46 of the Customs and Excise Act, 1998 (Act No. 20 of 1998) and pertains to cargo that has been held in the Menzies Aviation Warehouse as of 19th August 2023. NamRA intends to complete this process by Tuesday, 19th September 2023, with the possibility of an extension if required,” Ndorokaze said.

He further stated that customs officials will meticulously cross-reference the provided data and inventory list with the customs system to ensure the clearance of all waybills.

“Clearing agents and importers are hereby requested to visit the NamRA Cargo Section at Hosea Kutako International Airport for consignments that arrived before 19th August 2023,” Ndorokaze said.
