Poor visibility possible cause of fatal Arandis crash

Floris Steenkamp

A fatal head-on crash occurred on the B2 shortly west of the Arandis turn-off, involving a light pick-up truck pulling a trailer and a tanker truck. It is believed that poor visibility, caused by the Eastwind, may have been a contributing factor to this mid-morning accident. There is currently no official confirmation regarding the number of fatalities or injured individuals.

In conditions of poor visibility, traffic tends to slow down significantly or come to a complete stop, creating dangerous circumstances that can lead to rear-end collisions or vehicles veering into oncoming lanes or leaving the road entirely.

Preliminary indications suggest that the driver of the pick-up truck veered into the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the tanker truck. The driver of the pick-up truck was killed instantly, and one passenger sustained injuries. Additionally, one person in the tanker truck was also injured, according to police sources familiar with the incident. (This is a developing story).
