Katima Mulilo council to maintain roads

THE Katima Mulilo Town Council will need about N$730 million to fully develop their road infrastructure, including fixing potholes which have become a thorn in the flesh of the town.

Town Mayor Lister Shamalaza indicated that the council has already secured N$3.9 million from the Road Fund Administration for the reconstruction of the Lifasi and Kabajani streets by replacing the 900 metres tarred surface with interlocks.

Shamalaza added that about N$2.5 million will come from the coffers of the council, while an amount of N$500 000 was put aside for the maintenance of the potholed roads.

“We understand the need to have the roads in good standards. Continuous maintenance is necessary because our roads are mostly affected by the rain,” he said.

He said that they are also working on alternative ways to raise funds.
Shamalaza is urging road users to cooperate with the contractors who are on the ground to ensure speedy completion.

“When we close the roads, people should not open up the road. Give us time to finish the work,” he said.

Further, he urged people to adhere to instructions for work to be done and be able to serve the people, since the damage is not only being done to the roads, but causing damage to own vehicle.
