THE headman of the Onethika village in the Ontananga area of the Oshikoto Region, who was arrested during the past weekend for alleged livestock theft, has appeared in the Magistrate’s Court at Ondangwa on Monday and the case was postponed for further police investigation.
It is alleged that Johannes Itope Kasita, the headman of the historic Onethika village, stole and secretly slaughtered his neighbour’s donkey.
The donkey went missing some time ago and the owner, who is visually impaired, has been looking for it ever since.

Kasita was allegedly found in possession of dried donkey meat and pointed out to the police where he buried the animal’s skin within his traditional homestead.
He helped the police to dig it up.
The accused is said to be a member of the Onethika lineage of the Ondonga royal clan.
Sources within the Ondonga Traditional Authority are already predicting Kasita’s downfall.
“I cannot see how he would be retained as village headman after bringing the royal clan’s name into disrepute,” said a source at Ontananga.
Attempts to establish whether Kasita was or not granted bail and the date of his next court appearance have, so far, proved unsuccessful.
