Tjihero behind bars as he awaits bail application

WELL-KNOWN farmer and former captain of the Namibian national football team Albert ‘Hoonjo’ Tjihero and five other men have been behind bars since their arrest earlier this month after an alleged stock theft incident.

Tjihero and his co-accused made a court appearance at the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court before magistrate Auguste Simon.

Public prosecutor Veruka Mjembo opposed bail saying that the accused may intervene in police investigations and might be a flight risk.

The magistrate remanded the six men in custody and their formal bail application is set for 12 May 2022.

Tjihero (65), son Kevin Tjihero (30), Joel Katjivi (34), Ruben Ndatowe (33), Karitjindua Katunahange (22) and Jeremia Helau (45) are accused of stealing four calves valued at N$52 000 from Ockert Steyn at Farm Okorusengo at Hochfeld, in the Okahandja district.
