THE Namibian Wildlife Resort’s (NWR) spokesperson, Nelson Muremi Ashipala, has confirmed that six of the ten tourists reported missing in the Fish River Canyon, have successfully made it out.
This comes after a South African couple’s daughter earlier urged people to assist in finding her parents who went hiking in the canyon.
Ashipala further stated that the NWR is aware that four tourists, who embarked on their hiking journey on Saturday, are still missing in the canyon.
According to Ashipala, these four sent out a distress call after they reached their first campsite. However, they were not there when the NWR reached the location where the missing four stated they were.
Ashipala assured the public that the NWR rescue team and the Ministry of Environment, Tourism and Forestry are searching for them
“We again urge all tourists that are tackling the Fish River Canyon hike to please ensure safety by sticking to the routes and where possible, to use a guide for this undertaking,” Ashipala said.
NWR did not indicate whether the South Africans Trevor and Samantha Burger who were also reported missing in the Fish River Canyon are among the missing four or the six who were found.
