HORRIFIC violent crimes against women continue unabated, with the latest incident the brutal murder of 23-year-old Lydia Garises whose body was found without private parts near Dordabis on Monday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, Nampol’s Head of Public Relations, the deceased, who was the mother of a ten-month-old baby, had also been raped.
A passerby found the body around 17:50 on a mountain close to a river in the Stinkwater area.
“It is alleged that the deceased was last seen alive between 22:00 and 23:00 at a wedding celebration held at Stinkwater on Saturday,” Shikwambi said.
“Incidents like this shatter our efforts in combating Gender-based Violence (GBV),” she said, specifically referring to the 16 Days of Activism against GBV campaign observed countrywide.
No arrest has been made yet.
She urged members of the public who might have information regarding the incident to report it to the nearest police station or to contact Warrant Officer Kavari on 081 280 0326 and Sergeant Kaoko on 081 642 0826.
Police investigation continues.
