A 26-YEAR-OLD woman accused of murdering her newborn baby whose body was found ripped open will appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The woman was on Monday arrested for the murder of the baby in Island Street in Windhoek’s Rocky Crest neighbourhood.

Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, Nampol’s Head of Public Relations, said the gruesome incident happened between Saturday and Sunday.

The suspect allegedly gave birth to a baby girl in the bathtub of the house where she is employed as a domestic worker.

“The suspect then decided to wrap the baby in plastic bags and hid the body in the closet of her sleeping room,” she said.

Shikwambi said the suspect allegedly later removed the plastic and cut the body open, taking out the intestines. She reportedly threw the intestines in a dust bin and placed the body back in the closet.

According to Shikwambi, the matter was reported by the owner of the house, after detecting an unpleasant smell around the property.

“Upon searching in the domestic worker’s room, a plastic containing the dead body of a baby girl with an open stomach was found in a decomposed state. The intestines were found in the bin by the police officials who responded to the call,” she said.

The suspect was arrested and charged with murder as well as defeating the course of justice.

Police investigation into the matter continues.
