PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has once again dedicated a full engagement session to the Namibian youth, to collectively discuss issues of national concern, with unemployment being the main issue.
The four-hour-long session took place at State House on Thursday.
November is Africa Youth Month, under the theme Defining the Future today: Youth-led Solutions for building the Africa we want.
“This year’s commemoration spotlights efforts by young Namibian and African youth towards recovery from the pandemic and also aiming to encourage young people to focus on youth-led solutions in shaping the future,” Geingob said.
The presidency devoted the dialogue to the challenges and difficulties faced by young Namibians at large at the event that was described by attendees as delightful and vibrant.
Developmental programmes and young people’s involvement in the provision of prospective solutions to national matters were discussed.
The youth proposed to the high office that the incorporation of Entrepreneurship as a subject in the lower education system in all Namibia schools could be a potential solution.
They argued that many Namibians are taught and mentally made to work hard and become good employees, as opposed to becoming job creators through entrepreneurship.
During the engagement, Geingob recapped the country’s Green Hydrogen Project initiative, which he talked about at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) held in Glasgow recently.
The project will produce an estimated 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year in the African nation which will serve both domestic applications as well as exportation potential.
Initially, 2GW of renewable electricity generation will be implemented that will produce green hydrogen with further phases planned to scale up to 5GW and 3GW of electrolyser capacity.
Namibia is a nation with an abundance of potential for producing renewable energy and, in turn, green hydrogen, Geingob said.
This project, situated in the Tsau//Khaeb National Park, will put the country on the map for green hydrogen as its looks to situate itself as a key global player for the export of hydrogen and ammonia.
Geingob convenes the Presidential Youth Engagement annually.
