PRESIDENT Hage Geingob paid a visit to the construction site of Ongos Valley on Wednesday to inspect the progress on Phase One of the huge housing development project outside Windhoek.
The aim of the project is to alleviate the critical housing shortage in the capital for low to middle-income households by undertaking a large-scale, cost-effective development, driven by private initiative and supported by government.

Ongos Valley, when completed, will consist of 25 000 housing units, four business centres including 106 business plots, and 48 institutional plots, with over 20% of the development dedicated to public and conservation open areas.
Also planned are 20 schools, numerous malls and service stations.
Development director Americo de Almeida said the project brings new hope for Windhoek residents.
“We would like to bring ownership and wealth to the community,” he added.
Almeida said the project has created several job opportunities and Phase One will be inaugurated in March next year.
