HEALTH minister Dr. Kalumbi Shangula today said that a total 49 people succumbed to Covid-19 yesterday, with Gobabis dominating the list with a record number of deaths amounting to 12.
Rehoboth recorded 10 deaths, while Mariental recorded nine deaths.
Windhoek and Grootfontein reported five deaths, each while Engela recorded three deaths, Swakopmund and Khorixas two deaths each and Eenhana reported one death.
According to the minister, 19 deaths were reported as home deaths, with the highest from Rehoboth at 10, followed by Gobabis with five.
The rest of the deceased passed away at healthcare facilities.
Dr. Shangula announced 609 new Covid-19 confirmed cases from 2505 results.
The gender distribution is 337 females and 272 males and the age range is from three days to 106 years.
Among the confirmed cases are 45 learners, 11 teachers and six students from different institutions.
“We are also reporting 15 healthcare workers. Of all the confirmed cases, three which represents less than one percent are reported to have received first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, and one is fully vaccinated, ” Dr Shangula stated.
So far, 144 417 Namibians have received their first dose of vaccines, while only 42 142 received their second doses.
Dr. Shangula added that 273 new recoveries were recorded.
