THE Namibian Police is hunting for a gang of five armed robbers that held the owners of a smallholding next to the Swakop River at knifepoint before robbing them of various valuable items including a car.
According to the incident report provided by NamPol in the Erongo Region, the robbery occurred at about 21:30 on Tuesday evening.
The report states the suspects entered the home of the victims and held them at knifepoint. The robbers took several items of value from the house such as an external hard drive, laptop computers, camera equipment, a mobile phone, a television, a wedding ring, a handbag, a telescope, as well as the victims’ vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder. The value of the stolen goods is estimated at N$598 800.
The robbery victims told investigating officers that the robbers loaded all the stolen items in the vehicle and drove off into the darkness.
“About one kilometre away from the homestead the Pathfinder got stuck in the dry river bed. The robbers transferred the stolen goods to another vehicle and fled taking the keys of the Pathfinder that got stuck in the sand with them,” the report states.
According to the report the Pathfinder was recovered during a search for the suspects.
None of the other stolen items was recovered and no arrest has been affected yet.
NamPol has called on the public to assist them in tracing the suspects as well as the stolen goods.
