A RESIDENT of Tsumeb, the 38-year-old Paulus Nghifikenwa is fighting for his life in the Oshakati State hospital after he was shot several times by his 51-year-old brother on Friday evening.
The incident occurred at a house in Tsumeb and the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is facing a charge of attempted murder.
According to the Oshikoto Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Armas Shivute the suspect came home while under the influence of alcohol. He and his brother were involved in an argument during which the shots were fired.
“The reason for the quarrel is yet to be determined. The suspect, who was in a possession of his pistol, shot the victim multiple times and wounded him severely,” he said.
Shivute noted that the suspect and victim were alone in the lounge of the house where the shooting occurred.
He said eight spent cartridges were found at the scene by investigating officers after the incident.
“The suspect was arrested and the pistol he used was confiscated,” he said.
The victim according to Shivute was initially taken to the Tsumeb State Hospital but the severity of his wounds meant that he was transferred to the Oshakati State Hospital where he is still in a critical condition.
