THE police in the Ohangwena Region have arrested a 61-year-old resident of the Okatope Village in connection with the death of the 54-year-old Amon Nathaniel, who succumbed to severe stab wounds en route to the Oshakati intermediate hospital on Tuesday evening.
It is alleged that a quarrel erupted between the two men, that are both residents of the Okatope Village.
The quarrel was followed by a brief exchange of blows after which the suspect allegedly ran to his vehicle and immediately returned wielding a traditional knife (omukonda) and stabbed the victim in the armpit.
The incident occurred at around 18:00.
The victim was rushed to the Engela district hospital and promptly transferred to the hospital in Oshakati but died before the ambulance could reach its destination.
According to Inspector Abner Kaume Itumba, the suspect was arrested and is incarcerated in the police cells at Ohangwena in the Helao Nafidi town.
The suspect, who was identified by villagers as a retired police officer and a veteran of the armed liberation struggle, has already made an appearance in the Magistrate’s Court on the charge of murder.
