THE 42-year-old former Otjozondjupa regional councillor who has been accused of raping his teenage daughter was today denied bail during a brief appearance at the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect, who cannot be named so as to protect the identity of the victim, has been charged with two counts of rape and two counts of incest.
He appeared this afternoon before Magistrate Kanti Nangombe in the presence of his lawyer, Trevor Brokerhoff.
Prosecutor Veruka Ndjembo objected to bail being granted on the grounds that it would not be in the public interest to release the suspect.
The state was also concerned that he might interfere with investigations as the state is still waiting for statements from social workers and psychologists, as well as lab results.
His case was remanded to 8 April 2021.
